IPTV surges ahead in Spain

Spain ended 2018 with 4.6 million IPTV subscribers, or 564,00 more than a year earlier, according to data published by the regulator CNMC.

At the same time, the number of DTH and cable subscribers fell, with the pay-TV total as a whole growing by 3.2% during 2018 to reach 6.8 million subscribers.

Meanwhile, the total number of quadruple and quintuple packages stood at 12.2 million at year’s end.

While the former represented a 103,000 increase on a year earlier, the latter was 449,000 higher than at the end of 2017.

FTTH grew strongly in Spain in 2018, with 2 million new accesses bringing the total to 8.6 million. Furthermore, 74% of fixed-line broadband access lines allowed for download speeds of over 30Mbps.

Spain’s electronic communications market had total revenues of €6,428.62 million in Q4 2018, down 0.5% on a year earlier.

Within this total, audiovisual services accounted for €1,185.89 million (-1.1%) of the total.
