Telekom Malaysia to upgrade broadband services in Kunak

Telekom Malaysia (TM) will spend about RM1 million to enhance its business and residential Unifi high-speed broadband services here in the years 2019-2020, said a top official.TM Sabah General Manager Dato’ Mohd Sainal Mohd Amin also said the company had spent RM400,000 to provide Unifi services in several areas here.Among the areas being developed this year are the Jalan Rest House (Kunak District Office), Kg Getah Hujung, and Jalan Pangkalan (Bangunan Sapang).The entire Kunak district will be equipped with Unifi when it is developed next year in several areas including Kg Kunak Darat, Kg Kadazan, Pangkalan Madai and Kg Skim Cocos which is estimated to cost RM600,000.

“Overall, TM targets investments of around RM1 million for Unifi services throughout the Kunak district,” he told the media at the launch of the Kunak District Unifi Service at Dewan Datuk Zainal Gunong on Friday.Community Development Leader Bahri Lakile launched the service on behalf of Assistant Minister of Health and Wellbeing-cum-Kunak Assemblyman Norazlinah Arif. Kunak District Officer Susilo Sumarto was also present.The Unifi package consists of Unifi Home, Unifi Mobile, Unifi TV and Unifi Wifi services.Mohd Sainal said TM also introduced a Unifi Mobile postpaid plan through the #Khabarbaik campaign launched earlier this year, part of the company’s innovations. The plans are specially designed for households at an affordable price based on several age categories.

He said high speed broadband such as Unifi is important to ensure rural communities are not left behind in today’s rapidly expanding digital era.He also noted that a female entrepreneur from Kunak succeeded in marketing seaweed products by applying Internet marketing techniques and received the Digital Icon Award 2013 from the International Telecommunication Union and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. He said this is an example how opportunities are wide open in the rapidly expanding global digital era.Mohd Sainal said through Friday’s programme, TM also took the opportunity to introduce Unifi products, Edu and E-Biz packages to local communities through their Digital Class Business Clinic.To date, TM has managed to provide 184 home-passes at Kg Lormalong and 176 at Kg Bagiang.

“Currently, 65 customers have been using Unifi since it was launched two weeks ago in Kunak,” he said.Six people received the TM Digital Catalyst Customer Award handed over by Bahri at the same ceremony. A colouring competition for Kemas preschoolers was also held.
