Swedish vendor Ericsson has announced the signing of two new contracts with Egyptian mobile network operator (MNO) Etisalat Misr under which it will ‘expand the latter’s 4G network capabilities’ and extend an existing managed services deal. The first agreement will reportedly allow for the expansion of Etisalat Misr’s current 4G capabilities, and will see the deployment of ‘advanced features’ in Cairo. Further, the contract provides for the deployment of Ericsson’s 5G-ready radio systems, which it has been claimed will boost Etisalat’s network capacity in the Egyptian capital. Meanwhile, the second contract is a five-year extension of the current managed services deal that the two companies already have.
Commenting, Etisalat Misr’s CTO Khalid Murshed said: ‘We continue to be committed to bringing the best network to Etisalat Misr customers. At Etisalat Misr, we managed to maintain technology leadership that serve millions of customers across Egypt with the latest and best quality of products and services. Working with Ericsson allows us to deploy the latest technologies on our 4G network, which will be an important component of our rapid transition to 5G.’
