Telecom Egypt Collaborates with Cisco to bring the benefits of Cloud Native to Fixed Broadband Network

Telecom Egypt and Cisco are collaborating to enable Egypt’s first integrated telecom operator to serve virtual network functions (VNFs) in a full-stack telco cloud environment and further its network modernization plans. Telecom Egypt aims to transform its network in order to introduce services faster, deliver a high-quality user experience and build scale on demand even when traffic models are unpredictable. Through its collaboration with Cisco,

Telecom Egypt is building an application delivery infrastructure using virtualization and cloud-native paradigms and anchoring them to the reference architectures of network functions virtualization (NFV) in the fixed broadband environment.

Adel Hamed, Telecom Egypt’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer said:

“The transition to the Telco cloud is increasingly complex, but a pre-integrated and validated platform can deliver a more seamless process. We are thrilled to deepen our relationship with Cisco so that together we can bring virtualization to our fixed broadband network, while taking advantage of a full-stack telco cloud infrastructure.” Total & Mobile Telecom Providers will need more flexibility in their data centres to handle the new service. It must also be properly provisioned and configured with the right service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure an excellent customer experience. Technologies that enable core flexibility, like NFV and software-defined networking (SDN), will be key to succeeding with Network Virtualization.

Ali Amer, Managing Director, Service Provider Sales, Middle East and Africa at Cisco said:

“Operators around the world are transforming their networks in preparation for 5G and IoT, and network virtualization is a key component of any Ready network. Our NFV solutions will help Telecom Egypt to rapidly address changing consumer demands with swift development and deployment of innovative new service offerings.”
