FTTH advances in Spain

FTTH is already the main mode of access to fixed broadband in Spanish municipalities with over 50,000 inhabitants.

According to data published by the regulator CMNC, referring to December 2017, FTTH active accesses already exceeded 50% of total broadband accesses in these location

Furthermore, alternative operators accounted for 75% of new ones. Although Movistar claimed the largest number of active FTTH accesses (over 24% of the total) in locations with over 100,000 inhabitants, with the exception of Madrid and Barcelona, alternative operators as a whole had more accesses.

CNMC notes that penetration of FTTH accesses has increased considerably, reaching 30.9 in Barcelona and 29.5 in Madrid per 100 inhabitants.
