Global comms giant Telefónica has announced plans to launch its Movistar Play over-the-top service in Mexico later this year.
“We already have a service called Movistar Play in Telefónica, an OTT service with so much content, which is already available in other countries,” explained Telefónica Mexico president Carlos Morales Paulín. “We want to offer it soon in Mexico, probably this year.”
The company has been ramping up its Latin America content efforts of late. Recently, its Movistar+ TV business signed a strategic multi-year co-production partnership with Telemundo International Studios, to produce premium limited series for the US and international markets.
The Spanish-language Telemundo network will have the exclusive rights for the US; Movistar+ will have the exclusive rights for Spain.
