Danish operator TDC said it has begun offering hybrid broadband nationwide, following a trial by 500 of its customers running since November 2017. It uses a modem that automatically combines LTE with DSL and found that average speed rises from 7 Mbps to 42 Mbps.
TDC said approximately 400,000 Danish homes can only go online via copper cables. The speed provided by its hybrid system varies from place to place. TDC said locations with a service at 5 Mbps to 10 Mbps and good mobile reception can get downloads at up to 120 Mbps, or even 126 Mbps.
The operator said eight out of ten customers who took part in the pilot wanted to continue using hybrid broadband after the test period.
The price of a service with an expected speed of 20-25 Mbps for downloads and 5-15 Mbps for uploads is DKK 349 per month. Delivery costs DKK 99 and set-up costs DKK 299. A service at up to 50 Mbps for downloads but still 5-15 Mbps for uploads costs DKK 369 monthly. A subscription for a service at 50-100 Mbps costs DKK 399.
