Telenor Hungary announces full commercial VoLTE launch

Telenor Hungary – owned by the PPF Group – has launched VoLTE calling services over its 4G network, enabling ‘two to three times faster call-up and HD sound quality’. The full launch, based on a solution from China’s Huawei Technologies, follows a pilot with 3,200 customers. All Telenor Hungary subscribers with an active mobile data package and VoLTE-capable device can get access to the new all-IP mobile voice service via a downloadable software upgrade from this week onwards, and the operator notes that the range of compatible handsets will continue to expand, whilst stressing that VoLTE usage does not deplete customers’ monthly mobile data allowance.

Telenor Hungary’s 4G LTE network currently covers 99.5% of the population, with LTE-A technology now available on more than a thousand base stations (supporting up to 300Mbps downloads). 2,700 small settlements (with less than 6,000 inhabitants) are included in the 4G footprint, whilst the cellco claims that 95% of the population have access to ‘deep indoor’ 4G coverage.
