Spanish satellite operator Hispasat has reached agreement with services provider Media Broadcast Satellite to distribute SPI International’s FunBox UHD channel in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (EMEA).
The deal, running initially for five years, will see Media Broadcast Satellite’s teleport capacities in Germany combined with the use of Hispasat’s 30W-5 satellite which claims ‘extensive’ coverage throughout the region, and which is said to be designed specifically to distribute top-tier multimedia content such as that in Ultra HD.
Hispasat has been at the forefront of Ultra HD distribution and was first satellite operator to make an Ultra HD broadcast in Latin America through the Hispasat 30W-3 satellite. Since September 2013, the company has provided open-access broadcast of the Hispasat 4K channel in Europe.
The thematic FunBox UHD channel — covering nature, travel and adventure, art music, culture and lifestyle channel — can also be received in several cable TV operator platforms in Spain, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg among others.
