Latvian telecoms watchdog the Public Utilities Commission (Sabiedrisko Pakalpojumu Regulesanas Komisija [SPRK]) has issued a decision to terminate Lattelecom’s concession to use 5G-compatible spectrum in the 1427MHz-1452MHz/1492MHz-1517MHz band.
The cancellation will come into effect from 1 January 2021. In its notification, the regulator explained that under the national radio frequency plan, the aforementioned range is due to be released on 31 December 2020. ‘The purpose of the radio frequency plan amendments is to re-plan the use of the bandwidth from fixed to mobile communications,’ the SPRK noted, adding: ‘The regulator can now start to plan the granting of rights of use and redistribute the entire range so that, from 1 January 2021 onwards, operators who have received the rights of use can be fully utilise the range.’
