Tigo Senegal taps Ericsson for LTE rollout

Tigo Senegal has selected Ericsson for its nationwide modernisation project as it looks to accelerate digitalisation and upgrade its networks with LTE technology. As per the terms of the three-year deal, the vendor will ‘refresh legacy infrastructure’ at more than 1,000 existing cell sites, as well as rolling out LTE across the country, and modernising and expanding Tigo’s mobile backhaul network with its MINI-LINK solution. Ericsson will also provide Cloud Packet Core, Cloud Data Management and Policy solutions to improve Tigo’s core network, reduce OPEXand simplify the introduction of new user services.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Tigo Senegal received a 4G LTE licence from the Authority of Regulation of Telecommunications and Post (ARTP) earlier this month. Tigo paid a total of XOF27 billion (USD46.7 million) for its 4G concession.
