Open Fiber, Wind Tre bring FTTH to Vercelli

The Open Fiber wholesale-only venture of Italian utility giant Enel and state lender CDP has announced that the first commercial fiber-optic offers using its network are now available in the city of Vercelli in the northern Piedmont region.

Around 9,300 residents can already sign up to FTTH connections at speeds of up to 1Gbps via operator partner Wind Tre, said the company, with 7,200 more homes and public buildings to be added in the coming months following a EUR 5.5 million investment. Wind Tre said users can sign up to convergent plans including unlimited data under the 3 Italia brand or with 100GB of shared family data under the Wind brand.

Earlier this year Open Fiber said it remains on track to meet a target of 4 million connected homes throughout Italy by the end of the year, rising to 19 million households and businesses by 2022 in a total investment of around EUR 6.5 billion.
