AirtelTigo, Ghana’s third largest cellco by subscribers, has announced that it has completed the network integration it has been carrying out for the past year, following the merger of former independent companies Airtel Ghana and Tigo Ghana in October 2017.
Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Communications, Vincent Sowah Odotei commended the finalisation of AirtelTigo’s network integration: ‘With the completion of this integration, AirtelTigo now has a wider coverage and faster internet speed than it had before. I am particularly happy that many more of our people in rural communities can equally enjoy the improved network services and the many benefits that your [AirtelTigo’s] one big network presents.’ The minister went on to say that the government is pursuing an aggressive rural telephony programme, with the aim of connecting the entire country within the next five years.
