1&1 extends fiber cooperation with NetCologne

German broadband operator 1&1 has announced it is expanding its collaboration with regional provider NetCologne to include fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) connections, having initially focused on marketing the firm’s fiber-to-the-building (FTTB) lines.

In August last year 1&1 signed an agreement with NetCologne to use its fibre-optic network in North Rhine-Westphalia. This new deal will enable 1&1 to market NetCologne’s FTTC connections to its own customer base in Cologne, Bonn, Aachen and parts of the Ruhr region.

1&1’s open access model enables it to connect and market existing fibre-optic home connections of regional providers via a standardised interface to 1&1’s own infrastructure. In addition to NetCologne, other major regional network operators have already been connected to the platform, such as M-Net and Wilhelm.tel.
