FuboTV launches in Spain

The sports-based internet streaming service fuboTV has expanded beyond North America, making its debut in Spain.

Quoting its chief executive David Gandler, Reuters reports that it has chosen the country due to its high rates of video piracy. These demonstrate a likely demand for low-cost streaming services, and there is also strong interest in football.

FuboTV can be received on iOS and Android devices, including Chromecast and Apple TV. Its initial offer consists of 13 channels and costs €3.99 a month. It includes Moviestar Series, featuring such US shows as House of Cards and Game of Thrones, as well as La 1, La 2, 23 horas and Teledeporte.

New York-based fuboTV was launched in 2015 and initially focused on football. However, in due course it added other sports and entertainment channels to its line-up.

The service had almost 250,000 subscribers in the US in Q3 – it is also available in Canada – and according to Gandler is now looking to expand to other markets, including South East Asia.
