Open Fiber, Wind Tre bring 1Gbps FTTH service to Parma

The Open Fiber wholesale-only venture of Italian utility giant Enel and state lender CDP has announced that the first commercial fiber-optic offers using its network are now available in the northern city of Parma. Around 20,000 residents can already sign up to FTTH connections at speeds of up to 1Gbps via operator partner Wind Tre, said the company, with 47,000 more homes to be added in the coming months following a EUR 25 million investment.

Earlier this year Open Fiber said it remains on track to meet a target of 4 million connected homes throughout Italy by the end of the year, rising to 19 million households and businesses by 2022 in a total investment of around EUR 6.5 billion.
