VNPT-Vinaphone set to increase 4G coverage to 95%

VNPT-Vinaphone, a subsidiary of state-owned national PTO Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), is aiming to increase the number of its 4G base transceiver stations (BTS) from 21,000 to more than 30,000 by 2019. This will enable the company to provide LTE mobile coverage to 95% of the Vietnamese population.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) awarded an 1800MHz 4G licence to VNPT-Vinaphone in October 2016 and the firm became the country’s first LTEservice provider the following month with the launch of 100 4G BTS on Phu Quoc Island, in Kien Giang province. More than 24,000 2G, 3G and 4G BTS were installed in 2017, including 15,000 LTE base stations.
