Vodafone launches OTT service in Germany

After Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone is now also offering a TV package as a stand-alone OTT product in Germany.

The TV bouquet includes up to 62 channels in SD and up to 40 TV channels in HD resolution. GigaTV Net costs €9.99 euro per month in the first 12 months, afterwards €14.99 per month. In addition, there is a one-time provision fee of €49.99. The minimum contract period is 12 months.

Vodafone is thus taking a different approach to pricing than Telekom which charges €7.95 per month for the OTT version of MagentaTV and offers a monthly cancellation option.

For reception, customers are equipped with the Ultra HD-capable GigaTV Net Box free of charge for the duration of the contract. In addition to the TV line-up, the Android TV-based receiver also offers access to streaming services, up to 28 TV catch-up portals, Vodafone’s video-on-demand (VOD) service and the Google Play Store with various apps.

Users receive personalised recommendations from the TV portfolio, the Vodafone VOD service and the catch-up portals. Regarding the internet access, Vodafone recommends a data rate of at least 10Mbps.

Vodafone’s TV offer has already been accessible to non-Vodafone customers via the GigaTV app, but only on smartphones and tablets and not on conventional TV sets. GigaTV Net includes the GigaTV app for mobile devices free of charge.

Vodafone does not yet officially promote the new service, there is also no press release, but the websites for GigaTV Net and the Giga TV Net Box are already available.
