Djezzy's service revenue decline eases to 5% in Q3

Veon reported third-quarter revenues of DZD 24.4 billion for its Djezzy subsidiary in Algeria, down 6.7 percent year-on-year (-8.5% in Q2). The progressive improvement in the revenue trend continued, as the decline in service revenues eased for the fourth consecutive quarter to 5.0 percent. The Mobile data segment amounted to DZD 5.7 billion (+71.8%), out of DZD 24.3 billion worth of service revenues. EBITDA decreased by 13.7 percent to DZD 11.0 billion, reflecting lower revenues, additional taxation and investment in a new Business Support System (BSS).

The positive trend in customer net additions was confirmed as the mobile base grew for a third consecutive quarter to reach 15.6 million, up by 131,000 since June and by 394,000 from Q3 2017. The operator said that the quarter saw revived market competition, putting strong pressure on ARPU, in an overall context of economic slowdown and growing inflation. The ARPU decline stood at 6.4 percent year-on-year (-5.1% in Q2), although there was a positive movement quarter-on-quarter (+4.5% to DZD 518).

As of September, Djezzy's 3G services were available to more than 75.9 percent of the population across all 48 Algerian provinces (wilayas), while the LTE footprint was broadly stable since June with 25.4 percent population coverage, across 28 of the country's provinces.
