Globe Telecom introduced the embedded Subscriber Identification Module (eSIM) which it claimed would improve users' mobile experience and reduce plastic waste.
The eSIM is a virtual embedded, un-removable SIM that will be pre-installed in many of the upcoming models of mobile and wearable devices.
“This new technology enhances our customers' experience and the way they live their digital lifestyle. The eSIM is also consistent with our initiative to reduce plastic use as part of our sustainability commitments,” said Issa Guevarra-Cabreira, Globe Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Mobile Business.
The use of plastic SIM cards that comes with a lot of unsustainable packaging may soon be ditched in the fast-phased telecommunications industry, as eSIM comes with automatic activation and syncing features that will enable users to manage multiple devices.
