Ericsson announced it has contracted Taiwan original design manufacturer Wistron NeWeb Corporation (WNC) to produce 5G mobile hotspot routers for customer trials set to commence this month.
The devices will be based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem, and will be designed for use in mid-band 5G NR non-standalone solutions and to support complementary high-end LTE access.
The router has one USB connection and one normal cable power connection, and can be used for both interoperability tests with Ericsson's early adopter 5G customers, as well as with Ericsson's own general testing.
“Having access to 5G devices is crucial for customer trials and interoperability tests,” Ericsson head of 5G commercialization Thomas Noren said.
“Together with WNC and Qualcomm, Ericsson continues to drive 5G commercial readiness for service providers by significantly improving the testing of 5G NR networks, and facilitating the testing and commercial launch of 5G services in the early phase of 5G introduction.”
