Orion makes OTT gains

According to Orion, its Telecard Online application was downloaded more than 15,000 times in the first nine months of this year, with the total number of downloads reaching 65,678, or 29% more than at the end of 2017.

Meanwhile, its TV Guide application was installed 158,981 times, or 39% more than at the end of last year.

Orion ended September with 3,140,000 subscribers, a year-on-year increase of 2%. Its ARPU was R109 (€1.44) for the budget package, or 4% more than the same period in 2017, with the average price of its packages being R288.

Commenting on the results for the first nine months of the year, Kirill Makhnovsky, general director of the Orion group of companies, said: “Given the changing realities of the market, we plan, step by step, to identify new vectors of business development. The company’s activities today are not limited to the services of a federal satellite operator. We act as an integrator of multimedia solutions, mastering related areas, in particular, live broadcasts of major sporting and cultural events. The three-million subscriber base of the satellite TV service Telekarta continues to be one of the distribution development tools for TV channel customers, but we do not expect any significant expansion of it in the near future.”
