PLDT Inc. says it has expanded coverage for its Sun branded LTE services in Cebu, Philippines, to provide customers with improved mobile connectivity.
The telecoms operator says that the upgrade – which takes in Metro Cebu as well as other provinces and tourism areas such as Oslob, Moalboal, Daanbantayan, Medellin, Toledo City, Bogo City and Carmen – means that more than 80% of cell sites in the region now have 4G. In addition, PLDTsays that it has expanded LTE capacity in Cebu City, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Minglanilla and Talisay, while also rolling out 4G services in Badian, Balamban, Barili, Catmon, Madridejos, Sibonga, and Tabuelan. According to the company, internal tests showed data transmission speeds ranging from 10Mbps to 50Mbps have been achieved using a Sun LTE SIM and an LTE smartphone in ‘key areas around Cebu’. The operator notes too that LTE is also quickly upgradable to LTE-A – suggesting a longer-term plan to continue improving mobile internet connectivity in Cebu.
