Since the beginning of 2018, Brazil has activated 20 million new 4G SIM cards, reaching a total of 122.6 million. From January to August 2018, according to the Brazilian Telecommunications Association (Telebrasil), 341 new municipalities got LTE networks, bringing the total to 4,164 connected municipalities, where 94.6 percent of the Brazilian population lives.
4G coverage ha increased by 37 percent in the last twelve months. 3G coverage expanded to 5,319 municipalities, home to 99.4 percent of the Brazilian population. In the twelve-month period from September 2017 to August this year, 228 new municipalities got 3G networks.
In total, Brazil now has 208 million internet lines using the mobile network. Taking fixed and mobile connections together, the data for August show a total of 238.4 million lines, of which 30.5 million are fixed broadband connections (+9.2% year-on-year).
