Ooredoo Maldives has expanded its ‘SuperNet’ fiber-optic broadband service to Gahdhoo, one of the inhabited islands of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. Local newspaper Miadhu reports that the rollout was carried out in cooperation with infrastructure partner Shain Investment, which has supported Ooredoo in expanding the network on the island.
The Communications Authority of the Maldives (CAM) awarded an ISP licence to cellco Ooredoo in August 2015 and the firm launched commercial fixed telephony and broadband services in the capital Male in May 2016, notes TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database. Since then, fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services have been expanded to other locations, including Hulhumale, Vilufushi, Kulhudhuffushi, Villingili, Maradhoo and Maradhoo Feydhoo.
