Chilean 4G connections surge 57% to 13 million

The number of 4G-LTE connections in Chile reached 13 million at the end of the second quarter of 2018, up 57 percent compared to a year earlier, and now account for 79 percent of all mobile internet accesses, according to the latest report from telecom regulator Subtel.

Entel remains the market leader in terms of 4G connections, accounting for 32.2 percent of all lines, followed by Movistar (28.3%), Claro (19.3%), Wom (18.5%), VTR (1.0%), Virgin (0.6%) and Telsur (0.1%). Total telecommunications accesses rose to 50.5 million on 30 June at an average of 2.7 services per inhabitant.

The mobile internet penetration rate rose to 93 accesses per 100 inhabitants, said the report, up 17.8 percent year on year, with smartphones accounting for 78.8 percent of all internet accesses in Chile.
