Telkom Kenya is upgrading its 4G network to boost its speeds and reliability

Telkom Kenya is upgrading their 4G network across dozens of sites in and around Nairobi city in a move to boost the overal reliability and quality of the network.

In a campaign dubbed #Bomba4G, Telkom Kenya is encouraging it’s users in upgraded regions to test out the 4G network to experience the new and improved speeds.

The upgrade basically covers areas around Nairobi with no other major town listed. The areas around Nairobi with access to the upgraded network include; Westlands, Kangemi, Githurai, Ongata Rongai, Embakasi, Karen, Buruburu, Kileleshwa, South B, Pangani, Lavington, Ngong Road, Kawangware, Thika, Kiambu, CBD among many other regions.

While this is commendable, we’d like to see the same happen to the rest of the country. With devolution, a lot of other functions got decentralised so it would suit Telkom to also focus on major towns all across the country where coverage is still very spotty.

A couple of weeks ago, Telkom Kenya partnered with Loon, formerly Google Project Look, in a move that will see Loon deploy floating Telkom 4G cell towers. This is Loon’s first commercial deployment globally and should, at least in theory, see remote regions of the country get good 4G signals.
