Dutch cable and mobile network operator VodafoneZiggo announced on its website that it is launching a small-scale test service in Utrecht based on DOCSIS 3.1 fixed broadband technology supporting 1Gbps-and-higher performance.
20 households and businesses in the Oog in Al district of the city are trying out the upgraded cable service in the coming months, whilst VodafoneZiggo indicates that it aims to switch its entire HFC network across the Netherlands from the existing DOCSIS 3.0 platform to DOCSIS 3.1 by 2020. The group claims that its DOCSIS3.1 network will ultimately support peak internet access speeds up to 5Gbps/1Gbps (download/upload) in addition to offering better connection stability, security and latency.
