Bahrain fourth internationally in TII

Transportation and Telecommunication Minister Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed extended heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Pemier, on Bahrain’s winning the fourth place internationally in the UN Telecommunication Infrastructure Index (TII).

Bahrain has moved up seven places after ranking 11th in the previous report of 2016 in TII of the E-Government Development Index (EGDI), according to the UN e-Government Report which was released yesterday. The Transportation and Telecommunication Minister described the achievement as the dividend of the great care given by Bahrain, under the leadership of HM the King, to the telecommunication sector. He underlined the ongoing initiatives of the government, spearheaded by HRH the Premier, to upgrade the sector, commending the directives and follow-up of HRH the Crown Prince since reforming the telecommunication sector began in the outset of this century.

The minister pointed out that TII is considered as one of the most important international telecommunication indices that measures other sub-indices like the Internet usage rate as well as spread of mobile and fixed lines and broadband service.

It is to note that Bahrain ranks second internationally by %210.4 in terms of spread of mobile phone service. It also occupies second place internationally by %157.3 regarding spread of mobile broadband service. Meanwhile, it ranks fourth internationally by %98 of Internet use.
