China Mobile International has commenced construction of its new Singapore data center, which is expected to become one of the operator's most significant network hubs outside mainland China.
The facility will be China Mobile's second self-built data center in Asia-Pacific after the Hong Kong Global Network Center (GNC).
China Mobile International plans to use the data center to provide high speed connecting services including IPLC, IP Transit, voice, roaming, cloud computing and other one-stop communication solutions.
The operator will leverage its ownership in the subsea cable systems, Southeast Asia Japan Cable (SJC), Asia-Pacific Gateway (APG), SJC2 and Southeast Asia-Middle East, Western Europe (SEA-ME-WE 5).
The project will also complement the operator's planned Singapore-Hong Kong-US Bay to Bay Express Cable System (BtoBE), being constructed in conjunction with Facebook and AWS. The consortium contracted NEC to build the cable system last week.
Announcing the data center project, China Mobile International CEO Dr Li Feng said the facility will be located in Singapore Dacheng Industrial Park and have a gross area of 7,330 square meters with space for 2,100 racks.
It will also be built according to Tier III+ data center standards and be equipped with high-technology facilities including new modular uninterruptible power supply and a dual pipe cooling system.
“The opening of Singapore Data Center will combine the resources of submarine cable systems to strengthen core competitiveness of the infrastructures and facilitate the rapid development of connectivity, cloud computing, and CDN products,” he said.
“The launch of Singapore Data Center responds to the enormous network demands of customers in Singapore and Asia-Pacific, thus supporting its development on data economy in the new era."
