Bahamian cellco ALIV has upgraded to LTE-A on the islands of New Providence and Grand Bahama, with CEO Damian Blackburn claiming a ‘regional first’ for the Caribbean.
The executive told local news site Tribune 242 that the LTE-A launch occurred late last month, and coincided with the operator meeting its regulator-stipulated nationwide rollout obligations. ALIV’s final cell site – situated on Ragged Island – went live on Thursday 28 June, taking its total network footprint to 232 cell sites. Blackburn noted that the cellco now has more than 110,000 subscribers, which gives it a roughly 32% market share.
