Azerbaijan telco AzQtel (SAZZ) has launched commercial services on its new TD-LTE broadband network, reports Trend. SAZZ has switched on the TD-LTE network in Baku and the Absheron peninsula, as well as in Khirdalan and Sumgayit and customers in these locations will be able to access broadband internet speeds of up to 30Mbps. As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, SAZZ agreed to work with Israel’s Telrad Networks to build Azerbaijan’s first ‘Pre-5G’ network and had already installed six access points in Baku in December 2017, with each one capable of transmitting data at a speed of 600Mbps.
SAZZ stated that any customers currently subscribed to its WiMAX broadband service can switch to TD-LTE by purchasing a relevant SIM card. The company also stated that subscribers who purchase a TD-LTE modem will also be offered discounts and free access to the network. The company also stated that it intends to roll out TD-LTE in locations where the WiMAX network is already overloaded in major cities such as Ganja, Mingachevir, Guba, Sheki and Lankaran.
