TPG to connect 1000 Adelaide buildings to 10Gbps fiber

One thousand buildings have so far signed up to a city-wide high-speed business broadband project in central Adelaide, and several hundred more businesses have also express interest.

Ten Gigabit Adelaide, a fibre optic data network being rolled out to commercial buildings across Adelaide, promises its connected businesses and organisations 10Gbps data speeds.

The network is a joint initiative of the City of Adelaide and TPG Telecom, which hit their target to sign up the first 1000 buildings on the network in nine weeks, months ahead of the anticipated schedule.

The first 1000 buildings to be connected will be selected by the council and TPG from the list of applicants registered on the Ten Gigabit Adelaide website. Registrations for this stage are now closed and a delivery schedule for the rollout is being developed.

The initiative in March revealed it had connected to 40 buildings in the city’s CBD.

“We are leading the nation with the development of this network and the short amount of time it has taken to sign up the first 1000 buildings is remarkable,” Adelaide lord mayor Martin Haese said.

“What’s also exciting is that the business community has truly embraced Ten Gigabit Adelaide and is helping council sell the network’s benefits here, interstate and across the globe.

“Commercial real estate giant Knight Frank recently revealed its Adelaide office was constantly being asked about the network by potential investors when it was presenting interstate and in cities like Hong Kong and Singapore.

“Following its recent purchase of the Planet Nightclub site, Cbus Property said Ten Gigabit Adelaide was one of the reasons it chose to invest in Adelaide, which is just excellent to hear.”

The project has been designed to work in conjunction with the NBN and the South Australian government’s GigCity project, a $35 million investment announced last year that pledges to expand the state's fibre network and make Adelaide the home of Australia's fastest internet.
