Vodafone Romania to launch fixed internet and TV on Telekom network

Vodafone Romania has struck a wholesale agreement with Telekom Romania that will see Vodafone launch fixed internet and TV services using Telekom Romania’s fibre network in urban areas.

Vodafone Romania currently offers voice and data services, as will as its 4GTV video and music streaming service.

The two companies will continue to operate independently in the market, with competing offers.

Murielle Lorilloux, Vodafone Romania CEO, said that the agreement was “a step forward in implement one of our main priorities” – the launch of a full residential offer. She said that “our customers will benefit from convergence packages, including mobile services, fixed broadband and television services” with the same quality currently offered over Vodafone’s mobile network.

Vodafone’s deal with Telekom Romania follows its €18.4 billion agreement with Liberty Global to acquire the latter’s networks in Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania, which is expected to close in mid-2019.

The agreement with Telekom Romania – whose parent Deutsche Telekom is resolutely opposed to Liberty sale of its network to the mobile operator in Germany – will enable Vodafone to launch fixed services ahead of taking over UPC Romania.
