Pay-TV revenues grow in Russia

Russia’s pay-TV market will be worth over R110 billion (US$1.77 billion) by 2020, with additional services being an increasingly important source of revenue to operators.

According to ComNews, quoting data produced by J’son & Partners Consulting, revenues from basic TV services in 2017 amounted to R83.4 billion, or 9.8% more than a year earlier. Additional services, including VOD and PPV, increased by 40.7% over the same period to R3.8 billion.

For this year, basic revenues are projected to grow to R89.9 billion and additional service to R4.9 billion, while in 2010 the totals will be R102.9 billion and R10.6 billion respectively.

The general trend in the Russian pay-TV market is one of the number of cable subscribers falling, those opting for IPTV growing by a similar amount and satellite TV customer numbers being relatively stable.

It should also be noted that the losses in cable stem principally from those receiving analogue services.
