In an effort to expand fibre-based connectivity and TV services across Bolivia, public telco Entel plans to deploy fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks in 339 towns and cities through to 2022.
According to the company, broadband and IPTV services will be distributed through the fibre network forecast to be working in 62 municipalities by the end of the year.
In the next four years, the FTTH network will be deployed in nearly 300 new towns, including many in rural areas where IP and cable services are not common.
Funded by the Programa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones de Inclusión Social (Prontis), Entel’s FTTH strategy kicked off last year with an initial deployment in Tupiza, Uyuni and Villazón, in the Potosí department.
