EE cranks up 4G rollout in UK

UK mobile giant EE has confirmed that its 4G network has been extended to cover more than 12,000 square kilometres of ‘not-spots’ over the last twelve months, as it seeks to cover 95% of the country with LTE by 2020. EE has upgraded more than 4,000 existing sites to provide 4G, and built 105 brand new sites, delivering mobile coverage to the most remote parts of Scotland, north Wales and northern England for the first time.

Particular attention has been given to Scotland, with EE extending 4G connectivity to a number of remote locations across Scotland, including Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands, Cairn Gorm Mountain and the Isle of Skye, as well as West Dumfries and Galloway. This work has seen geographic 4G coverage in Scotland pass the 75% mark at the end of 2017, which EE claims gives it a larger Scottish footprint than any other UK mobile operator.
