Banglalink launches ‘IT Incubator 2.0’

Banglalink, one of the largest cellular service providers of the country, has recently started off the second phase of IT Incubator, a digital platform to foster the growth of promising digital startups in the country.

The platform was launched in collaboration with Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, a wing of ICT Division of Bangladesh Government.

An announcement on the applications of Cohort 2 was made at a press conference at IT Incubator located in Janata Tower of Kawran Bazar, where Hosne Ara Begum, Managing Director of Bangladesh Hi-tech Park Authority, Taimur Rahman, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer of Banglalink and other high officials of the two organizations were present.

After a successful completion of the first phase in 2016, IT Incubator has come up again to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with infrastructural, logistic and mentoring facilities. On the basis of the uniqueness and commercial prospects of the participating startups, top teams will be selected and given the aforementioned facilities for one year at IT Incubator.

IT Incubator is a part of ‘Make Your Mark’, the flagship Corporate Responsibility program of Banglalink’s parent company VEON. The renowned global telecom operator is committed to facilitating the development of the IT sectors of all the societies around the world it operates in.

Hosne Ara Begum, “IT Incubator has set an example of how the collaboration between the government and a corporate organisation can make contribution to the IT sector. I would like to thank both Banglalink and VEON for taking this sort of initiative for our young entrepreneurs. I have full trust in the capability of our talented entrepreneurs. They just need guidance and logistic assistance at the primary stage to flourish properly. Initiatives like IT Incubator will encourage more startups to come forward and contribute to our IT sector.”

Taimur Rahman said “We are extremely delighted to bring IT Incubator 2.0 for the emerging startups of the country. Digitalization is a continuous process that requires fresh and innovative ideas to move on. That is why Banglalink has come forward and offered the platform where startups can grow and contribute to the making of a Digital Bangladesh. We believe if we can ensure necessary assistance for talented young entrepreneurs, they will soon be significant contributors to our IT sector.”

Launched in July 2016, the first phase of IT Incubator was inaugurated by Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT Advisor to Prime Minister and Houlin Zhao, Secretary General of International Telecommunications Union. Of 400 participants, a number of startups were selected and given one year stay at IT Incubator.
