Vodafone aiming for near-nationwide 4G coverage by end-2019

Vodafone Germany has installed 118 new LTE base stations in the previous month, enabling 100,000 additional households in both urban and rural locations to access its mobile broadband network. The latest expansion work has connected a number of rural communities to 4G for the first time, including Fredersdorf (Brandenburg), Heiligenstadt (Thuringia), Moeglingen (Baden-Wurttemberg) and Weiherhammer and Voglsang (Bavaria). At present, the firm’s LTE network reaches more than 90% of the population, with coverage expected to increase to 98% of populated areas by the end of 2019.

Since May 2017, Vodafone Germany has also offered mobile data rates of up to 500Mbps over its LTE-A network by using tri-carrier aggregation (3C) technology in the 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz frequency bands, and today 31 cities are able to access these speeds. Furthermore, the operator provides mobile data speeds of 1Gbps to customers with compatible smartphones in Hanover, Hamburg, Berlin and Dusseldorf.
