Vodafone-Ukraine aims to invest in equipment for smooth development of 4G service

The mobile carrier Vodafone-Ukraine is considering the possibility of additional investments in telecommunications equipment necessary for the smooth development of the 4G service. The company believes it to be the most rational scenario for itself, according to the corporation’s CEO Olha Ustinova, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“One needs to balance between the necessary investments and the supposed frequency prices. Excitement and emotions – that’s all great, but calculation and reasoning should be applied. Either you invest in the spectrum, or you invest in equipment”, - Olha Ustinova told reporters after Tuesday’s tender in Kyiv.

According to her, the carrier forecasts large investments in 2018. However, Ustinova did not specify the volume of these investments.

“They are not going to be lower than they were last year. We have an extra opportunity to do this, as we were ready to pay a different price for the fifth lot”, - O. Ustinova noted.

“It’s a simple calculation: if your spectrum is not enough for you, how much you need to invest in machinery. The math is rather straightforward, and each carrier calculates it on its own. However, we think that $339 million for 5 MHz is quite... But our competitor is a wealthy organization that can afford something like that” – she clarified.

Vodafone-Ukraine won the fifth lot (1780-1785/1875-1880 MHz) at the tender on 4G licenses in the 1800 MHz range and obtained the license for $280 million.
