TTCL to roll out FTTH in Tanzania

Tanzania Telecommunication Corporation (TTCL), the country’s largest telco by subscribers, has announced that it has embarked on a nationwide fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) rollout, writes Tanzania Daily News.

The project will cost TZS40 billion (USD17.7 million) and enable users to connect to high-speed fibre-optic broadband services delivered directly to their homes. TTCL Director General, Waziri Kindamba said that a pilot project has already begun in Mikocheni, Mbezi Beach in Dar es Salaam and Medeli estate in the Dodoma region: ‘After the 90 days of the pilot project that commenced in February this year, then phase one will be implemented in all regional centres countrywide.’ Mr Kimdamba went on to say that customers using the FTTH network will be able to access broadband connection speeds of up to 50Mbps.
