Palau Telecoms, a wholly owned subsidiary of Palau Communications & Electronics Company (PCEC), has both renewed and extended a contract with SES Networks for ‘always on’ internet data connectivity and for more fibre-like solutions for its customers. SES announced yesterday (19 February) that in the latest contract signed, the telco – which has been using its networks since 2014 – will be extending its contract until 2020 and increasing the amount of medium earth orbit (MEO) connectivity by 150%. Under the plan, the telco will further utilise its ‘O3b’ MEO service to augment fibre capacity, providing an always on service, as it looks to develop a solid foundation for its 4G implementation plan.
Commenting on the development, Sam Masang, President of Palau Telecoms, said: ‘Since we first initiated service with SES Networks, we have seen a tremendous uptick in demand for fast, reliable internet … Now more than ever people expect to be able to access online services such as e-commerce sites and video calling applications at any time. We’ve been extremely impressed by the O3b fleet capabilities, and look forward to providing services for even more Palau residents in the coming years.’
