Facebook-owned instant messaging service WhatsApp has hit 1.5 billion monthly active users. According to the announcement, made by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, WhatsApp users send more than 60 billion messages every day. These new numbers indicate a rise of 0.2 billion users from July 2017.
Facebook acquired WhatsApp on February 19, 2014 for $19 billion. Since then, Facebook has introduced numerous new features on the platform to make it perform better than competitors like Snapchat and Telegram. The social media giant recently launched a WhatsApp for Business app to help enterprises connect with consumers via instant messenger. Facebook still has plans to bring even more new features to WhatsApp, such as group video calls, sticker packs, more power to group admins, and more.
