VEON joins ngena for SD-WAN

VEON has signed up to the Next Generation Enterprise Network Alliance (ngena) in order to deliver global software-defined wide area networks to its base in Russia, Georgia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan.

ngena was set up at Mobile World Congress in 2016 and has seen more than 15 international members join the partnership, with VEON the latest firm to sign up.

ngena’s partners share their networks, cloud infrastructure and know-how in an effort to develop a global SD-WAN managed by a central platform. This would result in a new enterprise network that is easy to use, highly scalable and fast to deploy, ngena claims.

Eugene Viskovic, chief business officer at VEON, said: “VEON is always on the lookout for innovative, secure and easily deployable network services for our multinational customers. Through the shared network of the Next Generation Enterprise Network Alliance, VEON will be in a position to provide SD-WAN globally. VEON is proud to join ngena and extend the reach of its shared network to VEON’s unique Eurasian geographical footprint.”

Founded by Deutsche Telekom, CenturyLink, Reliance Jio and SK Telekom, other ngena partners include Altice with SFR and Portugal Telecom, Expereo, KPN, Neutrona, Starhub, Telus and PCCW Global plus technology partners Cisco, Comarch and Equinix. A1 Telekom Austria signed up earlier this month.

Alessandro Adriani, Managing Director at ngena, said: “We are really delighted that VEON, one of the telecommunication service market leaders, is joining ngena to offer our SD-WAN services to its enterprise customers. VEON can leverage the ngena solution in many interesting geographies, thereby offering their enterprise customers secure, easy to set-up and rapidly deployed business networks.”
