Peru's telecommunications regulator Osiptel has approved the application of a single mobile termination rate for the year 2018.
The watchdog said all operators will have to pay USD 0.00661 (before taxes) a minute for connecting to a rival network, with the interconnection rate to be revised on an annual basis rather than every three or four years. The new rate is significantly less than the previous asymmetric fee of USD 0.0176 a minute (after taxes) payable by Claro and Movistar and USD 0.0199 a minute payable by Entel and Bitel. Osiptel said it expected the new rate to have a favourable impact on mobile tariffs and ultimately benefit users.
