ICE eyes Central American expansion

According to local reports, the telco, which delivers both IPTV and satellite TV in its home country, is already beginning operations in Nicaragua, following a partnership with the Empresa Nacional de Transmisión Eléctrica (Enatrel) to launch a shared brand, Te-Comunica, last summer.

In an interview with the Costa Rican newspaper La Republica, ICE’s telecom director, Jaime Palermo, has now revealed that the company intends to follow the same strategy in other Central American territories, aiming to become a pan-regional player such as Telefónica, Tigo and Claro.

Its next intended launches are set for El Salvador and Honduras, where the telco is negotiating with Hondutel. ICE also aims to enter the telecom markets of Guatemala, Panama and Mexico.

For such an expansive strategy, satellite TV will be key to offer entertainment services, due to its quick deployment and wide coverage.

Meanwhile, ICE recently signed a deal with Telia Carrier to boost dedicated internet access across the entire Central American region.
