Claro Brasil, Brazil’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers, has announced that it has extended its LTE-A network to a total of 140 cities, including the likes of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre. The infrastructure – which Claro brands as ‘4.5G’ – reportedly utilises 4×4 Massive MIMO technology alongside 256QAM functionality.
Claro’s LTE-A network launched in Brasilia in June 2017, following a rollout by Chinese vendor Huawei. The network aggregates spectrum in the 700MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz bands.
