Safaricom, a mobile network operator in Kenya, has upgraded its mobile app to support a range of new capabilities including M-Pesa transactions.
The upgraded app includes M-Shwari and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) M-Pesa features. It will also include Lipa Na M-Pesa Bill Manager and Lipa Na M-PESA payments via QR code scanning, as well as in-phone M-Pesa 1Tap features.
The Bill Manager gathers all bills in a single place and offers a list of the most popular and frequently used ones.
The M-PESA 1Tap capability enables payments on all NFC-enabled Android devices. The service compliments the existing M-PESA 1Tap feature that enables payments for those with a card, wrist band or a phone sticker.
The upgraded app also features a data usage manager, which enables users to view their data usage for a given period.
Safaricom director of strategy Joseph Ogutu said: “This new update brings a range of refinements that will further increase the ease and convenience enjoyed by our customers whenever they interact with our different services.”
