Longenesis to aid Africa monotise data

Insilico Medicine, a US-based organisation, said it would launch a health application ‘Longenesis’ to help Africans monetise their data, live longer lives, as well as build the economy.

Mr Iraneus Ogu, a Scientist with the organisation, said it was part of the company’s efforts to develop Africa under its project tagged Africa Intelligence (AI).

Ogu in Abuja said that Longenesis help people live better lives by ensuring that medical and social data were channelled towards personalised healthcare.

According to him, the higher numbers of Africans that live in cities have access to Internet healthcare which has the capability of generating income.

“Longenesis is built around healthcare and life sciences which are the most meaningful things.

“Longenesis could be included in data used in healthcare products such as development analysis and cultural trials.

“Africa’s population is undergoing a massive shift and by 2025, two fifths of all economic growth in Africa will come from 30 cities of two million people or more.

“This means that most Africans will be living in cities, with access to the Internet and more medical facilities.

“With that population, personal data management and monetisation is likely to emerge as a lucrative industry for Africans over the next five to 10 years,’’ Ogu said.

The scientist said that the launch of the application would come in the first quarter of the New Year.

He added that the organisation was focusing on drug discovery, longevity research, biomarker development and bigomics data.

According to him, data can be used to improve healthcare through ‘normal values’ which are standards used in medical diagnosis.
