Zeop covers 60% of Reunion with FTTH

ISP Zeop (Reunion) has announced that it has passed 200,000 households with its fibre-optic network, which is now present in 17 municipalities, news source Megazap writes. Going forward, the operator is aiming to offer fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services with downlink of 1Gbps across 60% of Reunion’s territory by December 2017, with 90% of the island scheduled to be covered with fibre-optics by mid-2018. The operator disclosed that a total of EUR120 million (USD143 million) has been invested in Reunion’s network, with a further EUR80 million earmarked for investments.

Xavier Hermesse, the deputy general manager of Zeop, said of the company’s plans: ‘We are following the roadmap announced since 2014 and we are keeping the commitments made with each municipality … There is no 4G or 5G without a high-quality fibre-optic network: our leading position in fixed broadband will enable us to launch mobile broadband very smoothly and with the best quality of the market.’ TeleGeography notes that Zeop Mobile was awarded 4G-suitable spectrum in the 1800MHz, 2100MHz and 2600MHz bands in October 2016, though a timeframe for the mobile launch has yet to be announced.
